Safety Tips for Night-Time Driving

night driving
You may not realize it, but night-time driving is one of the most dangerous activities that you can engage in. Despite having fewer drivers on the road, fatal car accidents are three times greater at night compared to day. In order to make sure that you are safe on the road, here are a few tips that you should take note of.

Food, drinks and medication

Foods and medications you that you take may affect your driving ability. Avoid taking medications that can make you drowsy, especially if you’ll be driving. Also, consume foods that are high in protein. If possible, try to reduce your intake of foods that are high in carbohydrates as they can make you feel sleepy.

Our safety tips will never be complete without mentioning alcohol. As you all know, alcohol can impair your driving ability and put you in danger. So, please don’t drink and drive.

Let there be light

At night, there is less light available for you to spot potential hazards. That being said, it is important to use light in order to see and be seen.

Make sure that your headlights are working fine. If not, have them replaced in pairs. Otherwise, one of them will be weaker than the other, which could be distracting to most drivers and disorienting for you. Also, make sure that your brake lights work too. This is important as it would give the drivers behind you a warning when you need to make an emergency stop.

Use your gadgets for its intended purpose

Living in the digital age, we understand that gadgets are a necessity, but please use them only when you are at a complete stop. If you need to talk to someone, please do so before driving. If you have received a call while driving and you think it’s important, stop momentarily and take that call.

Avoid staring at oncoming lights

Since your eyes are focused on the dark road and are used to the dim glow of the instrument panel, you can get easily distracted by staring at a bright a road sign or the headlights of vehicles headed your way.
