    How to Prevent Rust Damage

That orangey-brown mess that accumulates on your car is not only unsightly, but it also significantly depreciates the resale value of your car. Once rust starts forming, it will continue to spread; thus, making it hard to repair and remove. As a car owner, it is important that you know how to prevent it from forming.

In an attempt to protect your car from rust damage, we’ll give you a few helpful tips to prevent rust on your car. Read on and we’ll tell you more about it.

    General maintenance

Keeping your car clean is one of the most important steps to keep it rust-free. Wash your car every 2 weeks. If it is often wet with salt, it would be best to wash it at least once a week. Also, wax your car every 4 months. Make sure to keep the inside clean and clean up after any spill as it may lead to rust formation.

    Be cautious around salt

Salt speeds up rust formation. That being said, you have to keep your car clean, especially during the winter when there is salt on the road. This is also true if you live by the ocean.

If your car is regularly exposed to salt, this means that your car is at great risk of rust damage. If this is the case, we suggest cleaning your vehicle at least once a week and spray it with rust-preventing lubricant or have it repainted.

Examine your car for rust damage

There are 3 key areas that you should look into when checking for rust damage:

    1. The external painted parts
    2. The trunk and the engine
    3. The undercarriage of the car

When the paint starts to bubble or blister up, signs of rust formation may start to show. Also, you should check for beginnings of rust on other metal parts. If rust starts to pop up, treat it immediately and aggressively.
